(CBS) – A Prospect Heights teen used an iPad to arrange what he thought would be an encounter with a prostitute but instead got robbed of the electronic device and a piggybank after being pepper-sprayed, police said.
The 14-year-old victim set up the meeting online using a website for sexual liaisons, Prospect Heights police said.

When the woman arrived at the teen’s residence Wednesday, she reportedly told him to undress. Then she allegedly used pepper spray on him and fled with his iPad, a piggybank and a jar full of money, authorities said.

Police were able to track the suspect when she later used the iPad.

Charged with one count of armed robbery was Dareka Brooks, 22, of Milwaukee, whose bond was set at $10,000. Her next court appearance is set for May 31.

The teen victim is safe, police said.

Wayne Klinkel tells the Independent Record that his dog Sundance ate the bills while he and his wife were on a road trip to visit their daughter.

Klinkel says he carefully picked through the dog’s droppings, and his daughter recovered more when snow melted.
He says he washed the remnants of the bills and taped them together and sent them to the Treasury Department’s Bureau of Engraving and Printing with an explanation of what happened.
The bureau’s website says an “experienced mutilated currency examiner” will determine if at least 51 percent of a bill is present and eligible for reimbursement. The process can take up to two years.

Like millions of other people, I’m currently looking into an alternative solution, both self-hosted or just having the sync data stored in something like iCloud or Dropbox, while using a front-end application still.

I’m already seeing mentions on various sites about several alternatives, but one self-hosted web application has peaked my initial curiosity, called Fever. If anyone else has any suggestions or opinions based on past-experience with a specific solution, I’m all ears and would love to hear about it.
